Measurement for EFIS/MCP and MIP

Post by lestat »

Does anyone know the measurement for how far forward the MCP/EFIS sticks out from the MIP on a 747? It looks like around 6 inches but it is hard to tell from just pictures. Thanks, Russ

Hello Russ,

I just got my hands on some really nice drawings on the 747-400 cockpit, and as far as I can see the MCP/EFIS sticks out 1'-1,5'' from the MIP.

Send me a message if you want more help with measurements.

Regards :D

Thanks. I know it is late over by you but I still have enough time to run out and get some wood to start building this piece today. Thanks very much. I believe the correct saying is "mange takk"

The MCP front from MIP front is 300mm in a B767.
All the big Boeings are very similar.
The coaming overhangs a further 30mm, and has a 10mm lip, the bottom of which is level with the top of the MCP.
Under the coaming overhang is flooglighting for MCP illumination.
When you build, it looks too far, but this is an actual measurement, checked many times.

Glareshield overhang

Post by Sam Verhoeven »

For the 737NG the Glareshield is also 30 cm (about 12 inches) AFT from the MIP and is perpendicular to the 15-18° angle of the MIP with a 3 cm overhang (about 1.25 inches) where the MCP illumination is build in.

Like Don said, it is probably much alike in the Boeings.
Best,

In the B767, the MIP face to bottom MCP angle is a little MORE that 90 degrees.
If anyone needs the exact angle, just yell.
