2017 projector options

Post by ABQ737EXP »

Hello all,

Been searching through the forums for advice on which projectors are a good fit for my project and there isn't many up to date threads on the topic. I am looking to use 3 projectors to fill a 15 ft diameter, 8ft tall, 220 degree screen (if possible). This is a full size setup with the fds 737 shell. What are everyone thoughts on projectors at the moment. (Wish I could afford Nat lol)

Jamie

*edit* the 15ft x 8ft is the max i can fit, I am ok with adjustments to dimensions. Room is 15x15x8ft.

Daniel,

I've been researching the optima gt1080 and it seems like a really good option. Great specs and reviews and the price isn't bad at all. Thanks for the input! I'm hoping I can catch a black Friday deal and get all three.

The Benq ht2150st looks like a really good option as well. Great reviews and a trusted brand.

Benq ht2150st - Throw ratio is to long at 0.69. Unless you have high ceilings you will run into trouble filling the screen/shadows.

If going for the optoma gt1080, look for the Darbee version.

Despite the throw ratio, the reviews of the benq were too tempting. I was nervous but after testing i couldnt be more happy with this projector. Preliminary tests lead me to believe that there will not be a line of site problem with this throw ratio in my particular setup. If i do run into issues i have a way to vault my ceiling to accommodate an extra 3-4 feet of height. Not saying this will work for all setups, but looks amazing in mine so far.

I've done about a year worth of research on this topic as well. If money is not an issue I would good with the Acer Z650 Predator, I believe they are like $1200 each though!!!!! The following are way more affordable and are all short throw and have great refresh rates: Acer H6517ST, BenQ 1080ST, BenQ 1085ST+, Optoma GT1080, Vivitek DH559ST or projectors with similar specifications. Ranked in order. In my opinion of course.
