I would like to make this setup : a projector with a "backlight" projection

Do you have experience this kind of projection ?
If yes, what kind of material should I use for the screen ?

Let's go on this topic Wink

Hi,

I used this kind of projection for a while, it worked but there were some issues.
- The screen was not to far away from the front of the flightdeck which resulted in seeing the pixels of projection, using very expensive projectors resolves this problem.
- Secon issue is that when sitting close to the screen puts the aircraft in a crab position on the runway, the only good viewing place is in the middle of the screen. This can be adjusted a bit but not completely.
- Third is that you have to project on the screen with an angle, if you put the projector in the visible area, you will see the source of projection trough the screen.
- I used a special rear projection screen, the image was very good.

Still, I would advise you, as you probably have space enough to go for the projection on a curved screen discussed before using the acrylic mirror or if you don't want this, project in the front as large as possible and don't put the screen too close to the flightdeck.

I will go for the curved one now Razz

This is interesting. Here is some questions :
- The angle for the projector is the same problem for a normal front projection ? Probably less : the overhead of the flightdeck brings a very important angle.
- The distance between the screen and the pilot, and the pb of the centerline is the same that a front projection I think ?

The room where I'm goint to move the flightdeck is 6,30m long and 2,60m wide. The screen is in theses 2,6m. I think I have enought space for front or rear projection with screen far away from the pilot. In this space, Guys, How would you make your setup ?

Rear projection could be a plus for cover the all pilot view, with an horizon view in font of him and a rwy quite under the nose.

BUT : I don't want to spent (to much) money in the screen. Do you think I can build my rear projection screen ? How ?

hi ive gone the way of rear projection and have the screen just in front of the windscreen,
overall im pleased and the screen material was about 100 us dollars for a large area, the only gripe is i need to buy a short throw lens to make the image bigger as the cockpit is in a smallish garage,
hope this helps,

You can allways test it if you want, use simple white thin paper or a bedsheet to make a screen and put it as you planned. Play around with settings and see it you get the result you want.
You can see some examples of this here :

I love this B727 project !! What a work. It's amazing !

I try a projector today, with a direct screen, a rear screen with bedsheet and paper, and a projection toward the flightdeck and a miror to go back to the screen.

Well, perhaps, the best is the setup described in topic

But In france, I can't get some big PVC panel to make the screen, neither some acrylic mirror ... Any idea ? In UK ? Belgium ?

Keep in mind that the projector should sit higher than you show in your picture.
One of the issues is the Projector's light firing directly at you.
Looks like the Sun! Its bright.
Should be higher and on an angle. Keystoning is important on this.

Or.... Lower...

I use white plastic table clothes... U.S. $1.66, and barely notice the hot spot. I have it setting lower.
