777-300ER Fuel Imbalance

777-300ER Fuel Imbalance

Hey guys,

I have another consultation for you. Almost every time I fly the 777-300ER on long hauls, I get a fuel imbalance EICAS message, and even after going thru the procedure of shutting off the "light" side and cross-feed from the "heavy" side it never gets corrected. The engines just keeps seeping from its own side and it ends up with a difference of over 30,000 pounds of fuel between the side tanks. Does anybody have any suggestions on how I can fix this? Do I need to modify something on the aircraft.cfg file?

I use the POSKY 777-300 model with the SA interior and cockpit mdl file.

Francisco,

3 thoughts come to my mind:
  • APU on for hours? (takes from left wing)
  • THRUST ASYM COMP not activated
  • RUDDER not neutral
I do lots of long-haul flights but never had more than 400 pounds difference... (772ER from Sim-Avionics)

Hello Alex

All of those are valid points, and all the options have been checked for. The weird thing is that this fuel imbalance never happens when I fly the SA 772ER, it only happens when I fly the 777-300ER. So I wonder if I have to modify something in the aircraft.cfg file.

From your description, it is a POSKY model compatibility issue as even the cross-feed does not work properly.
May be you can find a way to make it work editing the POSKY cfg ??

Sim-a simulates the 777-200ER.
Just changing/importing a different exterior model may not really work unless you also appropriately change the .cfg file, and most importantly the .air file, which is a very steep learning curve affair.
The flight models are just different and they affect - i think I read somewhere - also how they are connected to various gauges.

Maybe as someone mentioned we can ask Mark/Peter/Steve if they would be willing for a fee to offer the b777-300er as an option in sim-a.

Certainly an option to look at the 300ER but I think we all know that we will need Mark focused on FS2020 which launches in mid August. On top of all the interconnection items he will have the tougher task of wrestling with a new Flight Modelling system that is part of this new platform.
It will require a lot of patience from everybody.

Hello Andrea,

It was worth to give it a shot. I updated the aircraft.cfg file and added the SA interior and some other settings to the base POSKY 773, and everything works fine, except as mentioned on my first post, during long hauls (which is the purpose of the 777, lol) I end with a fuel imbalance EICAS message which makes your landings a little more interesting and challenging [-o<

It would be awesome if in the future (maybe for FS2020) the different types of 777 (200ER, 200LR, 300ER and F) are available and modelled with SA, especially for those of us who like to fly in the Virtual Airlines world. I understand and I can only imagine how busy Mark is right now, and I'm more than willing to wait for his SA update for FS2020, but like I say maybe in the future this could be a feasible option. :wink:

Understood. There are a few “unknowns” for FS2020....
With FSX/P3D we had 737 and 777 aircraft that were “starting points” for flight modelling. This next generation platform does not seem to have These types in the initial release..
Mark is deep into an Airline project for the past while but is watching closely for 2020 info. Poor guy never gets a break!

Still wondering why ASOBO did'nt include a 737 as one of the their base flight model ??
My guts feeling: quite happy with P3D and LM, concentrating on hard flying an airliner with high end avionics not on eye candies.

Im on the FS2020 alpha since the start...... dont get your hopes up for Aug guys, its great but wont be much use for us for a while as it currently stands.

With regards the FB- there is nothing in the airfile that can cause this. It must be something like the defintion of the posky 300 fuel tank numbers not correlating to what simA is expecting. Post the aircraft.cgf and I will have a look
