Our Story

Flight decks and components engineered and manufactured in Canada since 1999, for pilot training, aerospace research and custom programs worldwide.

Built one flight deck at a time

Peter Cos founded Flightdeck Solutions in 1999. FDS began by building individual flight deck components and grew, panel by panel, into a manufacturer of complete fixed-base flight training devices.

Today FDS builds FTDs for universities, flight training centres, airlines, specialized operators and research teams around the world, and still makes the components that go into them.

Our facility has roughly doubled in size every decade. The latest expansion, completed in 2024, took our Newmarket headquarters to 10,000 square feet, with dedicated assembly bays and a demonstration area where customers can see fully built FTDs before they commit.

We build the flight deck ourselves

Training devices are often assembled from other companies’ hardware. Ours are designed and manufactured in Newmarket, which means the people who answer your call are the people who built your device.

Designed and built in-house

Panels, main instrument panel, EFIS, FMS units, overheads, pedestal and crew seats.

Built to our drawings

The flight deck shell, designed by FDS and fabricated to our specification.

Sourced

Small electronic components, and on some devices, real or rebuilt aircraft yokes and throttles.

That is how most serious manufacturers work. The difference is that the flight deck itself, and the knowledge of how it goes together, stays with us.

Seven aircraft types, and many that aren't on the list

Our fleet covers the B737 MAX, B737 NG, A320, Q400, B777, B787 and C208B. Each one is a separate engineering program, built to its aircraft’s own layout, controls and systems.

The same depth lets us take on work that has no catalogue page: custom flight decks, devices adapted for mission-specific training, and development cockpits for design and research teams.

We have also engineered and manufactured components as an OEM supplier for companies including Boeing, Honeywell and CAE.

Here for the long haul

An FTD is in service for 10 to 15 years. Over that time, software changes, curricula change and people change. What shouldn’t change is who you call.

Because we build our devices, we can support them the same way: installation and commissioning by our own team, parts from our own shop, and configuration changes from the engineers who know the design. Steve Cos, our Vice-President of Technical Services, leads that work.

“FDS will not go out of business doing the right thing for our customers.”

Peter Cos, President

Made in Canada, in service worldwide

Every FDS device starts in our Newmarket, Ontario facility. From there, they go into service across North America, Europe and Asia, with operators including Southwest Airlines, Air Canada, Korean Air, the University of Nebraska Omaha and Svensk Pilotutbildning in Sweden.

At home, we delivered 25 FTDs to Canadian operators and institutions in the two years to November 2024, including WestJet, the British Columbia Institute of Technology, the International Test Pilots School and Conair.

We work with customers directly, with sales representation in Canada, Costa Rica, Germany and South Korea.
